Grooming Agreement

The Boring bit....
When Dropping your dog off to the salon to be groomed, you will be asked if you have read the terms and conditions on our website and that you agree with the below.

**Current Vaccinations/Veterinarian Information:**
Owners verify that their pets are current on Rabies, Distemper, and Parvo-Virus vaccinations. Proof of Vaccination must be provided to Coastal Canine Dog Grooming (hereinafter referred to as "Coastal Canine") upon request, along with current veterinarian information. Special circumstances will be taken into consideration.

**General Grooming Information:**
Extra care will be taken when performing grooming procedures; however, the Owner (“You”) must understand that possible reactions such as stress, skin irritation, nicks to the skin, or toenail quicks may occur. You acknowledge that problems can occasionally arise after a grooming visit, such as bleeding from nicks, clipper irritation, and mental or physical stress. Grooming can also reveal a hidden medical problem or exacerbate a current one.

Please make us aware at the time of initial contact if your dog is a wriggler, nervous, anxious or any other behaviours that you are aware of so that we can find a suitable appointment time where we can spend a bit of extra time, care and concentration with the dog if required.
**Moles/Skin Lesions/Tumors/Other Irregularities:**
Because these skin irregularities may protrude from the skin, they are vulnerable to nicks or cuts during the grooming process. Long or sharp dew claws can be dangerous to staff and other animals, posing a risk of injury. You understand that senior pets (age 7+) may have a greater chance of injury. You agree not to hold Coastal Canine responsible for any injuries that might result from the grooming process.

If you dog is not well on the day of grooming or they seem off colour, please let us know at the most earliest time. We understand that elderly pets may not be up for grooming sometimes and would much rather they rest at home.

When we notice that your pet, young or old, seems not themselves, has an injury or is unwell. we have the right to contact you as the owner for stop the groom immediately or not allow the pet to be groomed on that day

**Emergencies:**
In case of an emergency, we would like your permission to obtain immediate veterinary treatment at your expense if necessary. If your dog’s veterinarian is not readily accessible, Coastal Canine is authorized to choose a veterinarian of its choosing. Coastal Canine will not be responsible for any conditions or problems discovered during grooming. Should veterinary care be necessary as a result of any services rendered by Coastal Canine, you must notify Coastal Canine within 48 hours of such care. Reimbursement for such care will be at the sole discretion of Coastal Canine.

**Matting:**
We are a strict humanity over vanity grooming salon.
Dogs with severely matted coats require extra attention. Coastal Canine will not cause serious or undue stress to pets during the de-matting process. If a dog is severely tangled and/or matted, it presents a greater risk of injury, stress, and trauma. Heavy matting can trap moisture and urine against the pet’s skin, allowing mold, fungus, and bacteria to grow, and may reveal skin irritations that existed prior to grooming. While precautions are taken, removing a heavily matted coat can result in nicks, cuts, and/or abrasions. After-effects of mat removal may include itchiness, redness, self-inflicted irritations or abrasions, and, in extreme cases, failure of hair to regrow. In some cases, pets may also exhibit brief behavioural changes.

The owner (client) will be charged additional matting fees to cover cost of any damaged blades due to the matting, if the groom needs to be spread out over multiple appointments.

**Double Coats:**
Coastal Canine does not recommend shaving down double-coated dogs unless deemed absolutely necessary for their health and well-being, a letter from the vet will be required. Complications that can occur include the coat not growing back in the same texture and/or colour prior to shaving, bald patches, hyperpigmentation of the skin, darkening of the skin where the coat has not regrown, loss of the guard coat (the top layer of the coat), coarse re-growth of hair in different directions, and exposure to the elements (sun/heat damage, heat stroke, and cold weather), as well as bug bites and reduced protection from scratching. Understanding that these conditions can occur, you authorize your groomer to shave down your pet and agree not to hold Coastal Canine responsible for any complications described above or otherwise that might result.

**Aggression:**
You MUST inform Coastal Canine if your pet bites, has bitten, or is aggressive towards people, other pets, or specific grooming procedures. Muzzles may be used if necessary. Muzzling will not harm your pet and protects both the pet and the groomer. Coastal Canine reserves the right to refuse or stop services for such pets at any time before, during, or after the grooming process should your pet exhibit aggressive behaviour.

**Liability for Injury Due to Dog Behaviour:**
The safety of both your pet and our grooming staff is of utmost importance. While we handle all pets with care, respect, and professionalism, unforeseen incidents may occur. In the event that your dog bites or otherwise causes injury to our groomer or bather during the grooming process, the owner (client) agrees to be held financially responsible for all resulting medical costs incurred by the injured party. Additionally, the owner may be liable for any loss of income resulting from the groomer's inability to work due to the injury. We encourage owners to inform us of any known behavioural issues or history of aggression prior to the grooming session to ensure we can take appropriate precautions.

**Fleas/Ticks/Lice:**
Parasites are a health hazard to your pet and humans alike. If fleas, ticks, or lice are found on your pet during the grooming process, your pet will be treated with a flea and tick shampoo to eliminate the parasites, and you may incur an additional charge. Any ticks found will be removed for an additional charge, and we strongly encourage you to test your pet for Lyme Disease. If lice are found, we will advise you to take your pet to the veterinarian, and grooming services will cease immediately as a precaution against their spread. A minimum charge of $50.00 will apply for flea/tick/lice treatments.
